Mobility Scooter Rental in Puerto Vallarta

Puerto Vallarta has one of the best scooter surfaces in Mexico, and one of the worst, and they are about a kilometre apart.

The Malecón is a flat, paved, kilometre long seafront boardwalk with ramps at the ends. On a scooter it is close to perfect. Cross the Río Cuale into Zona Romántica and you hit steep cobblestone streets that will test any machine and any rider.

We will help you use the first and plan around the second.

Access Ability de México is a family business that has been renting mobility equipment in Puerto Vallarta since 2017. We own our scooters. We deliver them ourselves. You will meet Andrew or Andres, not a subcontractor booked through an agency abroad.

You pay nothing today. No deposit, no card taken at booking. You pay at delivery. And there is no minimum rental period, so a day is a day.

The scooter: Pride Mobility Victory 10 LX

  • Up to 8 MPH. On the Malecón this is the difference between a stroll and actually covering ground. Use the speed dial to drop it right down in crowds.
  • Up to 13 miles per charge. Enough for the Malecón, the Hotel Zone and back with plenty in reserve.
  • 400 lb capacity.
  • CTS suspension. Puerto Vallarta has cobblestone, brick, storm drain grates and tiled plaza floors. Suspension is not a luxury here.
  • Four wheel stability. Vallarta’s older streets are steeply cambered so water can run off in the rainy season. A three wheel scooter feels nervous on that camber. Four wheels do not.
  • Fits standard hotel elevators, including the older Zona Romántica boutique hotels with small lifts.
  • Front and rear lighting, which matters because the Malecón at night is the best time to be on it.

We also rent lightweight foldable manual wheelchairs, rollator walkers with a padded seat, and hands free knee walkers.

Delivery around Puerto Vallarta

Free delivery, right to the door.

Centro and the Malecón. Hotels and rentals in the old town centre north of the river. Delivered to the lobby.

Zona Romántica and Olas Altas. We deliver here often. Be aware that many buildings in this neighbourhood have interior stairs and no lift, and the streets rise sharply as you move up toward Amapas. Tell us your exact address and we will tell you honestly whether a scooter is going to work at that property before you commit to anything.

Hotel Zone and Marina Vallarta. Flat, modern, wide sidewalks, good elevators. Marina Vallarta’s boardwalk loop around the yacht basin is level and easy, and the lighthouse end is a lovely evening ride.

Nuevo Vallarta and Flamingos. Twenty to thirty minutes north, over the state line in Nayarit. Big flat resorts, wide paths, modern construction. We deliver there, free.

Bucerías. The beachfront is flat and pleasant. The old town streets inland are cobbled and uneven. We deliver, and we will tell you which of the two you are actually staying in.

The cruise terminal. Unlike some ports, Puerto Vallarta’s ships dock alongside at the Terminal Marítima, north of Marina Vallarta, so you roll off rather than tender in. We meet ships there. Give us your ship name, your date and your all aboard time and we will be waiting with a charged scooter, then collect it at the same spot before you sail. There is no three day minimum here. A port day is a port day.

Airport arrivals. The airport is a few minutes from the Hotel Zone and the marina. We deliver to your hotel rather than the terminal so the scooter is charged and in place when you arrive, at any hour.

Tell us your dates and where you are staying and we will confirm availability and give you a rate. Nothing is charged until the equipment is in your hands.

How pricing works

We quote by phone or WhatsApp rather than publishing a single rate, because two things change the number.

Which equipment. Scooter, manual wheelchair, rollator and knee walker each have their own rate.

How long you keep it. Longer rentals cost less per day. A week is better value per day than three days. A month is better again, which matters in Puerto Vallarta because a lot of our guests are here for the whole winter.

A Victory 10 LX in Puerto Vallarta starts at call or WhatsApp us and we will give you the figure the same day.

The rest is fixed:

  • No deposit.
  • Nothing charged at booking. No card details taken to hold a reservation.
  • You pay at delivery, after you have tried it and you are happy.
  • Visa, Mastercard, Amex, or cash in USD or MXN.
  • No minimum rental period.
  • Delivery and pickup are free. They do not appear on the bill at the end.

Call or WhatsApp +52 322-107-2746 with your dates and the name of your hotel or building. You will get a straight answer, quickly.

Why travellers choose us

You are dealing with the owner. The top results for scooter rental in Puerto Vallarta include a large US booking site that hands your order to a local operator it does not name. You pay them, and then you wait to find out who turns up. Our number rings the family who owns the equipment.

Nothing leaves your account until the scooter is in front of you. Prepayment is the norm in this business and it is the source of nearly every horror story. We removed it.

44 five star reviews, a 100% rating, and a TripAdvisor Travelers’ Choice Award.

Family owned since 2017. More than 400 guests.

No minimum rental, which makes us one of the very few options in Vallarta for cruise passengers and short stays.

Objections, handled honestly

“Is Puerto Vallarta really scooter friendly?” Parts of it are excellent, and we would rather tell you which parts than pretend the whole city is easy. The Malecón, the Hotel Zone, Marina Vallarta and Nuevo Vallarta are genuinely good. Centro’s side streets and Zona Romántica are cobbled, narrow and in places steep. Most guests base themselves on the flat and take a taxi to the rest.

“My condo is in Zona Romántica. Should I still rent?” Often yes, but tell us the street. The blocks nearest the beach on Olas Altas are manageable. As you climb toward Amapas the grade gets serious, and several buildings there have a flight of steps at the entrance with no alternative. We will look at your address and give you a straight answer, including a no if that is the truth.

“Can I get across the Río Cuale?” The main road bridges have sidewalks and are usable. The pedestrian bridges onto Isla Cuale itself involve steps at some access points. The island is charming and partly reachable from the eastern end where the grade is gentler. Ask when you collect and we will describe the current route, because it changes with the season and with repairs.

“Can I ride on the beach?” No. Soft sand stops any four wheel scooter. But Vallarta is unusual in that its main seafront promenade is paved the whole way, so you get the ocean without needing the sand.

“What about the rain?” June to October is the wet season here and it rains hard, usually in the late afternoon and overnight. The scooter is fine on wet pavement, but avoid flooded streets, because Vallarta’s older roads drain into the middle and the water gets deeper than it looks. Park under cover and plan your outings for the morning.

“Will it fit in the lift at my hotel?” Almost certainly. The Victory 10 LX is sized for standard hotel elevators. Older Zona Romántica buildings are the only ones worth checking, and we will check for you if you tell us the property.

Local knowledge for Puerto Vallarta

The Malecón is the reason to rent here. Roughly a kilometre of flat, continuous paved boardwalk, from the Hotel Rosita end down to Los Arcos amphitheatre. Ramps at the access points, sculptures the whole way along, the ocean on one side and restaurants on the other. It is the single best mobility asset in the city and it is free.

Go at golden hour. Late afternoon into evening is when the Malecón comes alive, and it is cooler. Use your lights on the way home.

Cobblestone is the local surface, and it is not all equal. Some Centro streets have been resurfaced with smoother stone. Others are original and rough. If a street looks bad, the next one over is often much better. Take the parallel route.

Storm drain grates. Vallarta has open drainage channels and metal grates set into the sidewalks. Front castors can catch. Cross them square, not at an angle.

Marina Vallarta is underrated. The boardwalk loop around the yacht basin is flat, quiet, shaded in stretches, and lined with restaurants that mostly have level entries. On a hot day it is easier than the Malecón.

Nuevo Vallarta suits people who want zero difficulty. It is flat, modern and resort based, with wide paths and new construction. The trade off is that it is a half hour from the old town and there is less to see on foot.

Taxis. A standard Vallarta taxi will not take an assembled scooter. The scooter comes apart for transport and a large SUV will manage it. If you intend to move between Nuevo Vallarta and Centro regularly, talk to us and we will plan the logistics with you.

Restaurant entries. Along the Malecón and in Marina Vallarta, most are level or ramped. In Zona Romántica, a single step at the door is very common. Staff will help. Two or three steps is where it becomes a problem.

Frequently asked questions

Can I ride a mobility scooter on the Puerto Vallarta Malecón?

Yes, and it is the best place in the city to do it. The Malecón is about a kilometre of flat, continuous paved boardwalk with ramp access at the ends. Drop your speed setting in the evening crowds.

Is Zona Romántica suitable for a mobility scooter?

Partly. The blocks nearest Olas Altas beach are manageable. Streets climbing toward Amapas get steep, and the cobblestone is rough. Many buildings there also have entrance steps. Tell us your exact address and we will give you an honest yes or no before you book.

Do you deliver to Nuevo Vallarta and Bucerías?

Yes, free of charge. Nuevo Vallarta is flat, modern and resort based, which makes it one of the easiest areas we serve. Bucerías is easy along the beachfront and cobbled in the old town.

Can you meet my cruise ship in Puerto Vallarta?

Yes. Ships dock alongside at the Terminal Marítima, so there is no tender to manage. Send us your ship name, date and all aboard time and we will meet you at the terminal and collect the scooter there before you sail. No minimum rental applies.

What happens if it rains while I have the scooter?

The scooter is fine on wet pavement. Avoid flooded streets, because Vallarta's older roads drain down the centre and the water can be deeper than it looks. Park under cover overnight during the June to October wet season.

Ready when you are. No deposit, no upfront charge, no minimum rental. Andrew or Andres will bring it to your hotel and show you how everything works.
